Gyumri Puppet Theatre After Stepan Alikhanyan
The first puppet theater of Armenia, Gyumri Puppet Theater named after Stepan Alikhanyan, was founded in 1935.
Stepan Alikhanyan's art was new, and the world he created was new for the audience. The puppet theater was the first for a small audience. They were able to get aesthetic mastery here and enjoy this branch of art. At that time, Gyumri drama theater actors A. Pashayan, R. Odabashyan, A. Harutyunyan and other actors.
The first plays performed were "Monkey and Mirror" and "Revolutionary Tanya". Renowned directors Vardan Achemyan and A. Armenian. Successful and popular plays were "King Chakh-chakh" (1936, Vardan Achemyan), "Brave Nazar" (1937, A. Armenyan). Later, the theater's schedule was expanded with other performances: "Brother Lamb", "Red Riding Hood", "Dream of a Warrior", "Golden Fish", "Dog and Cat", "Immortal Apple" and others.
